Join us on October 18th & 19th between 9am – 4pm for a cauldron full of spooktacular family-fun including costume contests, animal pumpkin enrichment, trick-or-treating stations, and much more!

Dietary Needs? Check out the candy ingredient lists here for all of the candy that will be available for trick-or-treating so you can plan!

Due to this event being a special event fundraiser for the Zoo, we do not offer our normal ADA admission. We apologize for any inconvenience!

For the safety of you, our guests, animals, staff, and facilities, the following items are not permitted as part of your costume:

  • Full face coverings/masks
  • Live animals (with the exception of service animals)
  • Projectiles of any kind
  • Flames, pyrotechnics or explosives
  • Weapons, whether real or fake
  • Bare feet
  • Nudity, or any illusion to it, including overly revealing costumes

Limited number of tickets available. Advance ticket sales end when sold out (get yours early!). If tickets remain on the day of event, gate sales will be credit card only. Tickets are non-refundable. All sales are final. Should a ticket holder be unable to attend the event, the purchase will be considered a donation. As an outdoor venue, events are rain or shine unless otherwise indicated. If any changes are made, an announcement via an email to our members and/or ticket holders and on the Virginia Zoo social media channels will be issued prior the event.

The Zoo is a smoke-free facility; no smoking is allowed inside the Zoo. This also includes e-cigarettes and vaping. Inability to follow this rule will result in dismissal from Zoo grounds without a refund.

The Monarch Mile

The Virginia Zoo 3500 Granby St Norfolk, VA 23504 (757) 441-2374 Price: $5 for members; $10 for non-members; FREE if you join the Virginia Zoo team for Miles for Monarchs challenge

This fall, monarch butterflies are traveling up to 3,000 miles on their journey south to their overwintering grounds in Mexico. All ages are invited to join us as we walk and run on a course around the Zoo to support monarch conservation!

*Price includes entry to the Zoo for the day. Please note, animal trails will not be accessible until the Zoo opens at 9:30am. Event is rain or shine.

  • Can I purchase my ticket at the event?
    • Yes! Cash or credit payments will be accepted at the entry Ticket Booths
  • What if it rains?
    • This event is rain or shine. We encourage you to bring your rain gear and enjoy jumping in the puddles!
  • What activities are included with my ticket purchase & event entry?
    • Participation in the Monarch Mile run/walk, Animal Ambassador Greeter (see times under “Schedule”), Browse Party, Educational activities (see listed under “Activities”), and full Zoo access starting at 9:30am.
  • What activities are available for an additional cost?
    • Glazed & Infused Food Truck in the Fountain Plaza will have food & beverage items for purchase.

Lights, camera, action! 📽️ Join us for a movie under the stars. Gates open at 6:30 PM and the movie begins at dusk (around 7:00 PM). Beverages and snacks will be available for purchase during the event.

Movie: Harry Potter

No outside food or beverages are permitted. Animal exhibits & trails will be closed. Chairs & blankets welcome, but please be mindful of blocking the view of surrounding guests.

Fall Fest- Virginia Zoo

Celebrate the anniversary of our Virginia Zoo Express train reopening! One year ago our brand new electric train opened to the public, marking a monumental moment for our guests and the Zoo’s conservation efforts by introducing an environmentally-friendly train.

Our Gift Shop will be set up with a variety of train themed merchandise including engineer hats, bandanas, wooden train whistles, bears in engineer costumes, and train toys.

Beat those back-to-school blues by bringing your little one to the Zoo for a check-up on their favorite stuffed animal!

Our educators, volunteers, and community partners will help reduce anxieties kids often associate with visiting the doctor’s office by teaching about the importance of regular medical care (in both humans and animals) while letting kids express themselves through play.

THIS EVENT IS FREE WITH YOUR GENERAL ZOO ADMISSION AND TAKES PLACE RAIN OR SHINE!
