The Norfolk Trail of Honor is dedicated to those service members with a direct connection to City of Norfolk who has received the Medal of Honor.
There will be ten plaques located in Wisconsin Square, adjacent to the battleship. Each plaque will tell the story of the recipient’s exploits and a little about their lives.

A plaque listing donors will also be part of the display. A $1,000 donation toward the cost of this project will result in your organization being listed as a donor honoring those who were willing to go above and beyond the call of duty.

The Powhatan Sports Complex can host more than 2,800 at its multipurpose field or up to 3,000 at the field hockey and lacrosse stadium. Tennis can be hosted in the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center, with 74,000 square feet, 8 climate-controlled indoor courts, 12 outdoor courts, and two mezzanine seating areas for spectators. Golf can be held at Lamberts Point Golf Course, a nine-hole, par-34 course. ODU has both a rowing and sailing center that have hosted collegiate and national-level events. NCAA, conference, and a various soccer events can be held at the ODU Soccer Complex, which can hold 4,000 in bleacher seating.
The Elizabeth River Trail–Atlantic City Spur runs for 10.5 miles between Norfolk State University and the Port of Virginia. The trail occupies a railroad right-of-way yet incorporates a sea-faring history as it follows part of Norfolk’s waterfront. Here you’ll see ships and barges, navy vessels and tankers in the waters of Hampton Roads.

Walk the cobbled streets of West Freemason – the earliest residential streetscape in Norfolk; stroll downtown, where turn-of-the-century buildings stand in the shadows of modern structures. Throughout downtown, narrative plaques mark places and events of historic interest. You’ll even find a Revolutionary War-era cannonball still lodged in the wall of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church!
Built in 2008, the Arthur & Phyllis Kaplan Orchid Conservatory (KOC) primarily houses an orchid collection donated by the late Norfolk physician Dr. Arthur Kaplan and his wife, Phyllis Kaplan. The facility now houses over 1,500 individual orchid plants and a diverse collection of tropical plants.

Norfolk ‘s iconic mermaids can be found throughout the city – each one reflecting nautical and Norfolk themes, civic pride, the diversity of the region, and anything else the artists and sponsors could dream up.
