This event is a community listening party for Wading Between Two Titans, a podcast at the intersection of race, place and power in the time of sea-level rise. This event will feature food, music and a one-hour panel with Cassandra Newby-Alexander (Norfolk State University), Kim Sudderth, and Monét Johnson (New Virginia Majority).

Wading Between Two Titans narrates Norfolk’s historic African American communities and their love/hate relationship with the tides that make the city what it is. Listen at twotitans.org or wherever podcasts are found.

Producer Adrian Wood will moderate the panel, playing clips from the podcast and offering panelists space to build on and contextualize their comments. The panel will be followed by an audience Q&A. There will be opportunities for attendees to give feedback on the podcast and its representation of Norfolk’s African American communities. Most of all, this is a celebration of the hard work and accomplishments by environmental and housing advocates in this historic city.

The Repair Lab is part of the Karsh Institute of Democracy at the University of Virginia.
